Bookmobile Policy
Approved 1/10/2007
I. Objective
The bookmobile will focus on serving the population of the City of Casa Grande. Its major objective is to further the library’s Adult Literacy and ESL goals into underserved areas. Acting as the library's legs, the bookmobile will provide library service to city residents who would otherwise create a hardship to travel to a fixed library facility. Because it is mobile, the bookmobile is considered an integral part of library outreach. Scheduling will be designed to locate the bookmobile where there is the greatest possibility that people will find it convenient as to location and time. Stops will be for at least 1/2 hour in locations such as community centers, stores and public places. Every effort will be made to keep service to bookmobile patrons the same as for all other patrons, insofar as is feasible on a vehicle.
II. Collections
All library collections, including books, AV material, and other items are available to bookmobile patrons on the same basis as to all other patrons--except where the bulk of items precludes delivery by vehicle.
III. Circulation
Circulation rules and procedures, including overdues, limits on number of items, and rules for getting a library card will be the same as for all other patrons.
IV. Internet
Wireless Internet access will be provided from the bookmobile. Patrons wishing to use this free service must adhere to the same rules as if they were in the library. Priority is given to the library’s Adult Literacy/ESL program. When the lab is not in use for students, some public access computers will be made available for 15 minute increments. Longer time is available if no one else is waiting. The usage policy is consistent with the library’s internet policy.
V. Scheduling
Stops will be scheduled for the convenience of patrons based on the following criteria: Monitoring of demographics, growth and use patterns, levels of need and public demand. Planning will be done cooperatively with local social service agencies and planning agencies and other agencies who need bookmobile service. Patrons will be adequately informed of stops. This must include a minimum of:
? Printed schedules arranged for ease of patrons, not staff.
? Public announcements in the newspapers.
? Posters at or near stops.
? Patrons will be adequately informed of missed stops and changes. This must include a minimum of signs posted at stops and may include media announcements, telephone calls, etc.
